A logo is the face of any business. It starts a conversation with the potential customers in an enigmatic manner, but what elements define a logo design? And what colors will make a good fit for the design? This is the question that we will answer here in this blog.
Logo design is a process of answering a series of questions after thorough research about the company’s goals and purpose. And then prepare a rough sketch based on the information collected.
Why logo design is so popular?
From the very beginning of the day, we come across endless logo designs, which paint a clear picture in our minds, as to why we are using a particular product/service and so on. And needless to say, we remember graphics and artistic design more clearly than a basic watermark.
You would know PVR as a large multiplex chain but, will have no idea that its full form is Priya Village Roadshow. That’s how logos have occupied the center stage and become the very identity of a brand.
What are the elements of a logo design?
To design a logo that is a replica of the brand in ways like the brand’s color, core principles, and approach, it is important to go further into the details of these elements.
Color palettes
A careful selection of colors is key in making an impact with the logo design. Every color combines with its mature counterpart to add a message to the design. This message is central to the brand’s identity. Let’s look at some great combinations in the color wheel.

The color wheel shown above tells us about the temperature of different colors. For selecting the right color for a brand’s logo design, a graphic designer will choose colors from this wheel according to the temperament of the brand.
Red, orange and yellow are known as warm colors and blue, green, and purple are known as cool colors. The warm and cool colors are interchangeable with each other based on the relationship of the neighboring color.
Color models
CMYK– Cyan, magenta, yellow, and key are the color combinations that we use in the printing press. If you have noticed the four colorful hearts at the bottom of your newspaper then you should be familiar with this model. But, in case you didn’t then here is your chance to know. Also, Key means black as, when we use the CMY colors in full then their combination will give a solid black color. And that is the reason we use the CMYK model in the printing press.
RGB – Red, green and blue colors that automatically adjust themselves from CMKY model to RGB as per the screen you are using. RGB is added to the black background to build an image that uses light to produce an image in light colors.
The key difference between CMKY and RGB is that the former is subtractive and the latter is additive.
The different color combination that are used in any logo design

complementary color combinations: These colors create designs of high impression and influence. In such designs, the colors catch the viewer’s attention on the go and effortlessly.
Analogous color combinations: such colors sit beside each other on the wheel and reflect an environment of harmony and peace. And most probably tellingly portray a story with a proper start, middle and end.
Triadic color combinations: this combination is a dynamic trio that offers a chance to create something out of the box, very much like a unique and fresh concept.
split-complementary combinations: These colors are based on the concept of the complementary color. The difference is that besides the two opposite pairs, this combination ropes in the other two colors beside them. And it has less tension than complementary pairs.
Tetradic combinations: This combination uses four colors inspired by two complementary pairs. When using this palette one works closely with a dominant color as other colors combine to offer interesting variations in the design.
How colors used in a logo design affect our psychology?
When we talk about the concept of different colors and why we prefer one color over another, then we are broadly referring to the play of psychology in the design and texture. A color combination utilizes the psychology of the viewer’s mind and tells a story in a fascinating way.
Therefore, choose the right colors for an interesting brand story. And on that note let’s get your own logo now!!
